Project AWARE Coral Reef Conservation Specialty

The AWARE – Coral Reef Conservation Specialty Course has a main objective of educating divers and non-divers about the predicaments of the world’s coral reefs. Participants will learn how coral reefs function and why they are so important to conserve. It also reviews why many reefs are in serious trouble and what individuals can do to prevent their further decline.

Participants begin the course by reading Chapter Four of the AWARE – "Our World, Our Water" e-book. They may also watch the Protect the Living Reef video with our instructor. Learning continues with a presentation by our instructor, filled with interesting facts and colourful pictures of the coral reefs and its many inhabitants. Participants may earn the AWARE – Coral Reef Conservation Specialty certification card and/or AWARE Certificate of Participation by completing a set of simple Knowledge Review questions at the end of the presentation.

We usually offer this specialty course in conjunction with our annual Project AWARE Underwater and/or Beach Cleanup events. In addition, we can conduct this course any time during any of our dive trips for diver and family members who are interested to learn more about the coral reefs.

The course is priced at RM280 per diver participant, to cover our professional instructor fees, the PADI certification fees and certificate. However, for schools, governmental departments or corporate entities, we can offer a variation of this course as part of a school / department / company-organized Project AWARE Conservation Event at a very minimal cost. This course can serve as a good educational input to the school kids / department staffs / company staffs (and their families!) to raise their awareness on the importance of ocean conservation for our future generations. The course presentation can be offered as a prelude to a beach cleanup activity or before the participants go for their snorkeling excursions. At the end of the presentation, each participant will receive a Project AWARE Certificate of Participation.

A portion of the certification fees you pay us will be contributed to the Project AWARE Foundation.

Course Duration: 2 - 3 hours only.
