PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty
Many of us already own a digital camera and probably have taken quite a number of pictures to share with our family and friends via Facebook and such. Being certified as a diver (or maybe you're planning to take the PADI Open Water course) means that now, you have the opportunity to learn to take pictures underwater and share your love of the aquatic realm with those around you! The PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty course is tailored to all divers, from casual point-and-shoot folks to serious DSLR camera enthusiasts.
During the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty course, you learn to use the PADI SEA (Shoot, Examine and Adjust) method, which takes full advantage of the digital camera technology. The result is good underwater photos faster than you may imagine. You not only learn how to take good photos, but how to share them with your friends via email or printing, optimizing your work with your computer, storage and more.
You must be a PADI Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water diver to take this course (or have a qualifying certification from another training organization). Not yet a diver? No problem. Do your PADI Open Water Diver course first and start the Digital Underwater Photographer course during the last dive for your Open Water certification. It's that convenient!
Some of the things you will learn in this course:
- Choosing the digital cameras and underwater housings that fits your needs and budget
- Setting your digital camera and preparing the underwater housing for your dives
- Using the Shoot, Examine, Adjust method for getting great shots quickly
- Digital file formats, resolutions, exposure, composition etc.
- Use of underwater strobe
- Picture composition rules
- Editing and sharing your pictures, etc.
Only two (2) dives are required to complete this course therefore the course can be done as part of your dive trip and can even be started during the last dive of your PADI Open Water Diver course. This course is priced RM500, inclusive of an original PADI Digital Underwater Photography Manual and a white balance slate.
Our PADI Instructor, Mohd Halimi Abdullah has been taking underwater photography for more than five years with both point-and-shoot and DSLR cameras and can tune the course to suit your photography experience level. His underwater gallery is hosted at Flickr.com. In addition, after the course, Halimi is more than happy to comment on your underwater pictures so you may continue to improve on your skills.
